Eye-catching accent mirror to create a focal point in home decor

When you think of the mirrors in your home, your mind might turn to the functional mirrors in your bathroom or bedroom. You use these mirrors when getting ready in the morning and when you’re checking to see how you look before you head out for the day. You may also have a mirror in the front hallway to check your hair before leaving, but other than that, there are no other mirrors in your home. At The Light Center in Fort Collins, we love mirrors, and when it comes to home decor, they can be the best thing for enhancing your lighting and making your house brighter and more comfortable!

Where to Add New Mirrors?

Besides the mirrors in your bathrooms and bedrooms, you might not know where to add new mirrors in your home. Before you go shopping for new products, it’s good to think about the layout of your home and where a mirror would provide the most benefit. Does your living room get a lot of natural light? If so, then add a large mirror on the wall across from the window where the sunlight streams into the room. This can be above the couch or your favorite chair, but wherever the mirror is, make sure it’s bouncing light around the room effectively. Once the sun has set and the ambient lights are on, the mirror will reflect that light as well, making your living room feel bigger.

The dining room is another space that can benefit from a well-placed mirror. These rooms tend to be longer than they are wide, with space for the dining table, chairs, and perhaps a side buffet. Placing a large, wide mirror above the buffet table will reflect and refract the light from your dining room chandelier and wall sconces, and can make the room feel less cramped and more inviting.

Adding Multiple Mirrors

You may not be a fan of large rectangular mirrors, and you’d much rather have small, ornate options in certain spots throughout your house. An oval mirror can look great on a wall that isn’t very long, and you can place it above an accent table or other small piece of furniture. If your front hallway is wide enough, then consider adding multiple mirrors along the length of it, in between the family photos and artwork. As with any space, your hallway can feel bigger with mirrors in the right spots, and when paired with new semi-flush or flush mount lighting, it can have an entirely new look!

Shopping for Mirrors

The one step that can stop many people from adding mirrors to their home is the task of shopping for new decor. You may not be sure where to start, and while you may enjoy shopping online, you really want to see the product for yourself before you purchase it. At The Light Center, our showroom is filled with outstanding options, and our staff can help you decide which mirrors are right for your home. We can show you mirrors in a certain shape or with a particular frame, or we can discuss what your lighting design is and how the mirrors would work with the fixtures you currently have. Above all, we want you to leave our store feeling confident that you have the best products in-hand, and that they’ll look great in your home for years to come.

Mirrors can provide a number of benefits outside of helping you brush your teeth, put on makeup, or check your outfit. They can enhance a room by reflecting both artificial and natural light, and they can add the right accents on walls that need something more.
